In most schools, when I was a child, you had to pick an instrument to play in the school orchestra. And I did not pick an instrument because I carried mine with me all the time, and that’s all I ever aspired to be. I didn’t want to play an instrument. My parents gave me piano lessons and I hated it. I hated being stuck behind an instrument. I always wanted to be upfront, on the board and performing and singing. That was my thing. That’s what I loved to do.
